Mary Ann Berlin received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Duquesne University in 1969. She graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law in December of 1985. She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in June of 1986. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association. Ms. Berlin began her legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in Baltimore City.

Following a five year stint with the Public Defender's Office, she founded her own law firm in Baltimore City: Mary Ann Berlin, P.A. Since 2004, she has served as the pro bono immigration attorney at Shepard's Table Homeless Shelter based in Silver Spring, Maryland. She has presented the course "Immigration Law in Criminal Proceedings" at the Judicial Institute of Maryland and has also served as a lecturer on the same topic at the Office of the Public Defender in Baltimore City.

Ms. Berlin has served as chair of the AILA liaison committee for Immigration & Customs Enforcement's Baltimore District Office. In addition to her membership in the Maryland Bar Association, Ms. Berlin has also been admitted to practice law in the U.S. District Court for Maryland, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court
